The closest airport to Worthing is Shoreham Airport, about 5 miles (8.0 km) to the east in the district of Adur. It was the first licenced airfield in Britain when it opened in 1911. In 1933 it was bought by a committee, redesignated the Brighton, Hove and Worthing Municipal Airport, and opened under this name
